I know that hard times are coming and everything I can do to educate myself now, will make life easier later. So I've been wondering how I could live without a refrigerator (hope I never have to), especially since we did this during an ice storm. I found the topic of living without refrigeration enlightening!
One of the best sites I found was from a family who sails around the world, and has lived without refrigeration (link below). Great information, very informative. I've learned that my refrigerator is mostly a storage space for things that don't have to be kept cold. We do not eat much meat, but my freezer does usually have frozen veggies. I believe those who live without refrigeration eat healthier, as they would need fresh foods more often. I'm not ready to give up the convenience of the fridge. However, I have thought about cutting back on items that I store in the fridge, and buying a smaller refrigerator. Did you know your refrigerator cost you $40-$50 a month?
